“This is a delightfully illustrated book, beautifully designed and with lots of variety in the choice of plant subjects. I admired the standard of painting and the fresh, appealing studies which will be attractive to both naturalists and gardeners.”
- Dr. Shirley Sherwood OBE, Botanical art collector
“The U.S. Botanic Garden was thrilled to be a part of this book as it embodies what we know to be vital—our world is better and richer with fine botanical art, and the plants in our backyards, in our woods, and along the roadsides are amazing!"
- Holly Shimizu, Executive Director, U.S. Botanic Garden
Botanical Artists for Education & the Environment (BAEE) began with a small group of artist focusing their talents on a real-world need - preserving our natural environment.Artists studying with Anne-Marie Evans formed the nucleus of this group. Recognized worldwide as a master teacher of botanical art, Anne-Marie encouraged them to apply their talents to a significant project. These artists took up the challenge and created the book American Botanical Paintings: Native Plants of the Mid Atlantic. The book’s editor, Bonnie S. Driggers, is a former English teacher, writer, editor, and publications manager. She has researched and edited numerous books on both literary and technical subjects. Drawing on her publishing experience, Bonnie shepherded the book from original idea to completion. All of us at BAEE hope that the stories and the paintings inspire our readers to add more native plants to their gardens, which will help protect our fragile environment.
